Belize Government
The government in Belize is a Parliamentary Democracy.
There is a Belizean Prime Minister, Dean Barrow, who is the head of government.
Other countries with this type of government are:
United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, Australia, and Canada.
In 1964, Britain granted British Honduras self-government.
In 1973, British Honduras was named Belize.
In 1981, Belize gained its independence.
The only international dispute is a border dispute with Guatemala.
Guatemalan squatters continue to settle in the largely uninhabited rain forests of Belize's border region.
There are three ways for foreigners to live in Belize:
Tourist Card, Qualified Retired Persons Program or Permanent Residency.
