Michigan 63 - Delaware State 6
Michigan Stadium
October 17, 2009 - 12 noon
Game Summary
As expected. Michigan dominated the 1-AA team from Delaware State with an easy 63-6 victory. This was more than a bye week and slightly less than an inter squad scrimmage. It gave the Wolverines the opportunity to rest, work on depth and get their confidence back. Mission accomplished.
Michigan used 84 players in the game and racked up an all-time record 727 yards of offense, including 461 rushing yards. The 63 points were the most since they scored 63 against Minnesota in 1992 and 69 against Illinois in 1986. While the usual stars performed well in limited action (Brandon Graham has 2 sacks and a blocked punt return for a TD), some of the work horses on the team had big games. Vincent Smith had 166 yards rushing while Kevin Grady had a rushing TD and a receiving TD. Most everyone who wasn’t injured or who didn’t have a redshirt left was able to play.
As dominating as the victory was, Penn State looms. The 24-hour rule to celebrate a win or mourn a loss was unnecessary after this game. The team was pretty all smiles and thinking about the Nittany Lions by the time it was 49-0 in the 2nd quarter.
The Wolverine Den Trivia
Q: Who am I? I am the most famous Delaware State football alumni. I was first team all conference and team MVP in my senior year. I then went on to play professional football with the San Francisco 49ers. I played 9 years in the NFL, scored 46 touchdowns, was voted to the Pro Bowl twice and won three Super Bowls. I even had the game-winning touchdown catch with 10 seconds left in the 1989 Super Bowl. I was recently voted the #2 wide receiver all-time for the San Francisco 49ers. Who am I?
